GHS stands for the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals. GHS was developed by the United Nations as a way to bring into agreement the chemical regulations and standards of different countries.  In 2012, OSHA implemented changes to integrate components of GHS into the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard in order to come into alignment with the world standard.

Two major areas of change to the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard are:

Facilities that have hazardous materials must train employees under the new Hazardous Communication Standard by Dec 1, 2013.  This includes training on new Safety Data Sheet “SDS’s”(formally known as an MSDS), new standards on pictograms and other labeling changes.

Facilities that manufacture a hazardous material must now modify their labels and MSDS’s to meet the GHS requirements, including updating their pictograms to meet the new standard by 2015.

CDMS offers a training course for all employees, which covers the new OSHA GHS training requirements.  The course will consist of the following:

  • Discussion of the regulation
  • New labeling formats
  • New MSDS / SDS formats
  • New pictogram formats

The cost of this training is only $50 per view.  Each purchase is intended for individual viewing only.  A certification of completion will be issued for the user viewing the training.
